Pit Bull Attacks, Kills 2-Year-Old Dallas Boy

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A pit bull attacked and killed a Dallas toddler Sunday afternoon, after the dog was left along with the child for a few minutes, according to the parents.

Police responded to the 6800 block of Beechnut Street, shortly before 5 pm on Sunday, to reports of an animal attack.

Police say the father told them he had stepped outside to turn off the sprinkler system and returned to find the dog attacking the child in his bouncing seat. The child’s mother was also bitten twice by the dog while trying to free the child from the dog.

Police say the father grabbed the dog by the neck, took it outside and shot it twice.

No word on the mother’s condition.

CBS 11/Cavender’s Contest Winners Enjoy ACM Awards

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 NEWS) – Pam and Mike Philley aren’t fancy folks. Not usually.

“It’s difficult with our four kids,” says Mike.

Mike is a Plano police officer.

Pam works for Plano 911.

Sunday, the hard-working high school sweethearts checked into the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas and caught a chauffeured ride to the ACM Awards.

They even got a $1,000 gift card to Cavender’s, spending it Friday on outfits for the big event.

“I was blown away. I couldn’t believe I’d won all that,” said Mike.

The grand prize winners in a CBS11/Cavender’s ticket give-away almost missed out on it all.

It was their youngest daughter, 15 year old Mary, who signed them up to win tickets for the show.

But, being a police family, well…

“Everything is suspicious,” said Mike.

That includes calls from CBS11, trying to let them know they’d won!

“She was leary about it because it was an unknown number,” said Pam.

It took several days and several calls before Mike called the “suspicious” number back, just in time to claim the prize.

“It’s just been a whirlwind ever since,” said Mike.

Even their daughters made it to the show, making it a family night to go down in history.
