Anderson police who came to Gary Friday afternoon in search of a young mother and her newborn daughter who had been missing since early April believe they found her.
The body of a woman who matches her the description was discovered about 3 p.m. Friday at a home in the 1900 block of Cleveland Street. It was wrapped in plastic, stuffed in a plastic storage bin and doused with bleach, Lt. Thomas Pawlak said.
The 3-week-old infant appears to be fine and will be returned to relatives in Anderson, Pawlak said. But the story of how the woman came to Gary is bizarre, police agree. Investigators from both Gary and Anderson will be sorting through the events in the days to come.
